The Perfect Snow Day

For Presidents' Day, we dug out the snow clothes and prepared for a trip to Mt. Charleston!  In all of the years that we've lived here, we have never gone up to see the snow.  This jump suit was worn by one of the Salo boys.  It barely fit Lucas, but he loved it.  We found some Jolly Ranchers that must have been about 20 years old!
We weren't sure where to stop, so we followed suit and just pulled over on the side of the road like everyone else!  The snow was perfect, fluffy, and 1-2 feet deep!  We built a snowman, attempted to sled in garbage bags, ate a picnic lunch, and had snowball fights!
Lucas' pants were too short, so he started screaming about leaving after about 10 minutes.  I put a pair of my socks on him, up to his knees, wrapped his feet and legs in garbage sacks, and then tied his shoes to his feet!  And then he was happy!  Kate cried for the first 15 minutes and wanted to be held, but then she got with the program and was in heaven.

Kaitlin kept asking for new, dry gloves every few minutes.
After about 2 hours, a policeman came along a started giving out tickets to people parked on the side of the road!!  So, we grabbed the kids, threw our stuff in the car, and took off.  It was such a fun, beautiful day!

Exhausted kids!

How fun! I'm sad to say that although we live where it snows, we have NOT gone out to play in it even once this year. I'm such a mean mom! It's just so much work to put on the snow clothes and then they cry after 2 minutes! We're getting another storm this week, so maybe I'll give in because you guys look like you had a lot of fun!!

I love that last picture of Lucas! He looks like he is ready to pass out. We haven't ventured to the snow this year...it is a whole lot of work...we still have a little time.
